According to Section 8 of the 1996 Asylum and Immigration Act, it is a criminal offence for an employer to hire a new employee whose immigration status does not permit them to take up the position. This applies to all types of employment, including part-time, temporary, and casual appointments.
Security Screening/Vetting
Your potential employment within the security industry is contingent upon successful security screening, conducted in accordance with British Standard 7858.
To ensure each applicant’s integrity is suitable for a position of great trust, we will review either the last five years or back to the completion of your full-time education if it was less than five years ago.
When completing the application form, provide as much detail as possible. We will verify your education and employment history on a continuous month-by-month basis.
We will contact each of your previous employers and educational institutions within the specified time period.
We must contact your current employer before completing the 5-year screening. Permission to do so is a condition of the offer of conditional employment. If such permission is withheld, this offer will be withdrawn if the security screening is not concluded satisfactorily.
Detail your previous employment as follows:
1. Start and end dates of employment (months and years)
2. Name of your line manager and your position at the time of leaving
3. Full name and address of the company
4. Full telephone number of the company
It is crucial to detail each job you have held, no matter how short the contract. For agency work, provide only the agency’s name, address, and contact information.
In cases of unemployment or gaps in employment:
1. If you were unemployed and did not register with an employment service office, nominate a character referee who is not related to you and can verify your unemployment for the specified dates. Provide their name, address, and telephone number.
Ensure you seek permission from your character referees, as we will contact them to confirm the information you have supplied.
Previous Education Details:
Provide the following information for each educational institution you attended:
1. Name, full address, and telephone number of the School/College/University
2. Start and end dates of your education (months and years)
3. Qualifications obtained
Character Referees:
Please nominate one person who has known you for at least two years immediately prior to the start of the screening process. The character referee should not be a previous employer, a relative (by blood or marriage), or someone residing at the same address as you. This person should not be related to you but may be a current or former colleague.
Provide the following details for your character referee:
1. Full name, address, and postcode
2. Full telephone number
3. Length of time you have known the character referee
Financial History
All applicants must undergo a financial history check in accordance with the screening and vetting requirements of BS 7858.
Conditional Period of Employment:
After obtaining references to confirm your occupation for the previous five years, we may offer you a position on a conditional basis while we verify the remaining references. This conditional period will not exceed twelve weeks.
Failure to meet the company’s security screening standards will result in the termination of your conditional employment.
Criminal Offences
As part of our security screening process, we ask you to declare any previous criminal proceedings taken against you. Please provide full details.
Please note that the company complies with the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, which states that spent convictions must be disregarded.
